Confirm manuscript readiness
Complete the appropriate editorial review before formatting. Changes made after layout can affect pagination, the contents page, and production schedules. Keep a clearly named approved manuscript.
Plan for the reading format
Print and ebook editions behave differently. Consider trim size, chapter structure, headings, tables, images, and accessibility. Ask your production specialist which files and specifications your chosen distribution route requires.
Review before release
Review proofs on relevant devices and, for print, a physical proof where available. Check page breaks, image quality, front matter, back matter, and links. Agree who gives final approval and leave time for corrections.
General guidance only. The right approach depends on the book, audience, publishing route, and agreed scope.
